H.M. Bark Endeavour: Her Place in Australian History: With an Account of Her Construction, Crew and Equipment and a Narrative of Her Voyage on the East Coast of New
Published in Hardcover by Melbourne University Press (September, 1998)

It doesn't get any better than this!
I found this in a book shop for AUD$120. One of those moments in life when you have the opportunity to purchace a masterpiece. re-released in 1999, it comes in two large books, one full of large plans in a folder, all deserving of framing. The log of this vessel is included in the second part, from its' inception, construction, crew and history of the journey that mapped the east coast of Australia. If you ever wanted to make a wooden ship model of a truly amazing vessel in a time of adventure equivilant to any Wilbur Smith, this is all you will need. It could never be surpassed, as the author is obviously one of those men who is truely dedicated to his art. The anatomy of the ship series should be so good!

First Impressions.
I have just taken delivery of this volume and have been unable to put it down. This book is a wealth of information. Beautifully bound and boxed it is printed on the finest paper I've seen in a book like this. H.M. Bark Endeavour is not for the budget conscious. However, having owned it for just one day it is obvious the time, effort and the passion the Author has poured into researching this volume, right down to reproducing a comprehensive set of drawings of the actual ship. For anyone interested in maritime history, shipbuilding (including modelling) or even geography, I think this book is a must.

Here's a great gift idea!
This beautifully researched book stays focused on the central theme: how to stay sexy, young and vibrant. It's well written, fun to read and has a ton of information. I found a lot of new ideas as well as specific things to do, that I would have never bumped into without picking up this book. I'm giving it to my mother who is in her late 70's. It's the perfect gift for anyone interested in diet, staying well and feeling younger. Even the cover looks great for a gift book. Highly recommended.

A Great Guide to Really Living!
After I read the book, I began putting some of the recommendations to work with AMAZING results. Seems like I knew everything there was to know at 57, boy was I wrong.

Thanks to this book (guide), not only will I live much longer, I will enjoy it more too!

Superb
As an owner of a recently restored Model A this book is a MUST. Contained in it are all the fine points regarding the various body types and accessories. No wonder this book serves as a primer for the expert judging of Model A's.

The real nitty-gritty of the Model A Ford
This book is a "keeper" for anyone with an interest in the Ford Model "A". All of the various body styles from 1928 to 1931 are covered in detail. High quality photos accompany descriptions of both "standard" and "optional" features found on each body style. Kudos to the author and the photographer for a high quality book.

Hidden Coast of California
Published in Paperback by Ulysses Press (May, 1995)
Authors: Ray Riegert, Leslie Henriques, and Victor Ichioka
Average review score:

An outstanding guidebook
This is the most useful guidebook to the Golden State that this native Californian ever has seen. Riegert packs an astonishing amount of information into this conveniently-sized paperback. This guidebook, now in its eighth edition, clearly reflects extensive exploration and research. The book begins with general material on the California coast including a brief history, weather, wildlife, outdoor adventures, camping, a calendar of events, tips on what to pack, and advice to senior travelers, women traveling alone, gay and lesbian travelers, even foreign travelers. Each region of the California coast is introduced with a brief overview and capsule history, followed by details about scenic wonders, parks, beaches, hotels, restaurants, campgrounds, sports, shopping and nightlife. The author manages to maintain a lively style throughout five hundred pages of text. Included are colored AAA-style road maps of the most important coastal areas, supplemented by black and white maps of many regions and towns. Michael Michaud, Vienna, Austria

An invaluable aid for leaving the tourist trail.
"The Hidden Coast of California" by Ray Reigert was a godsend that allowed New Yorkers to see a side of the California Coast that the residents appreciate every day. Starting with the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon and Mr. Riegert's tips on lodgings, sights, and restaurants added up to a great vacation. Mr.Riegert's recommendations surpassed the two (2) other well known travel books. The tip to see the "La Purisima Mission" as the best of the twenty-one missions was pure gold and saved us valuable time that we alloted elsewhere. The recommendation on restaurants was absolutely priceless and the "Sojourner Coffeehouse" turned our dismal one night stay in Santa Barbara around. Our stays at both the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Parks cottages and The Asilomar Conference Center on the Monterey Peninsula were on the money and gave us the chance to combine our overnight stays with scenic views. I am now waiting for the release of the 1999 "Hidden Florida" before planning my next vacation.

Hidden Southern California

Good for the tourist or a new resident
This guide book covers all the bases, and even includes interesting historical digests of various districts in the Los Angeles area, the high desert and the low desert. The information is organized to assist tourists on short or longer visits, includes lots of "hidden" opportunities to eat, sightsee, or shop away from the beaten path, and is even helpful for a new resident to the L.A. area, who may not be sure where to start digesting this incredible city or the landscape around it. Highly recommended.

Excellent Guide to Southern California
This guide gave me all of the information I needed to have a wonderful vacation. The information was candid, and thoughtfully presented. There were many tidbits of information/ sights I would never had thought to see if it wasn't for this book. My vacation consisted of renting a car at LAX touring along the coast (stopping at places recommended in the guide) Heading down to San Diego and then returning to LAX by traveling inland and seeing Temecula etc. It was a fun filled 10 days and all I used was this guide. If you just want the basic tourist jargon, buy a Frommers guide, not a hidden one... :-)

High Priest of California (Novel)
Published in Hardcover by Re-Search Pubns (December, 1987)
Author: Charles Ray Willeford
Average review score:

brilliant!
The High Priest of California is Russell Haxby, a used car salesman, who meets a woman at a dance club. The plot revolves around Russell waiting to get her in the sack. If you've read Willeford, you're familiar with his a-hole characters. Haxby is the king of the a-holes! As usual Willeford takes a tired, well-worn plot and puts his sick and addictive 'english' on it. In place of the juicy tidbits of art history insight you get in other works like Burnt Orange Heresy, Wild Wives and Pick Up, you get Willeford's sentiments on Joyce and Kafka! If you're a fan of Miami Blues then you'll see the roots of "junior" frenger in Haxby as well. High Priest is Willeford 1st, and one of his best!

A brutal work from a brutal author.
The best thing about Charles Willeford's stories is that the characters are always horrible people. The kind of people who live all around us (maybe you're even one of them.) High Priest of California was Willeford's first novel, and it sets the tone for his later works: an amoral protagonist is willing to do anything to get what he wants.

Hollywood Migraine: The Inside Story of a Decade in Film
Published in Paperback by Merlin Publishing (October, 2001)
Author: Ray Greene
Average review score:

Covers a decade in the life of Boxoffice Magazine
This autobiography covers a decade in the life of Boxoffice Magazine: a period during which Greene had access to the top names of Hollywood, from actors to executives. 1990s Hollywood history is revealed from an insider's viewpoint, providing articles of both personal reflections and encounters with industry leaders.

A good one for contemporary film fans
I was surprised by this book, which I bought on a trip from Europe to the USA and read on the plane, and afterward. I was looking for something to read that wouldn't be too taxing. The dust cover copy made me think I was buying a book about celebrities, but there's actually a lot more going on here than that. The majority of the content is a thoughtful grouping of essays about the business and aesthetics of Hollywood in the 1990s - what the movies claimed to be about, what they were actually about, and how they shaped their arguments in such a way as to reflect, sometimes unintentionally, the tenor of the times. The writer has made me think differently about what I assumed to be a trivial era of moviemaking, and see the period with new eyes. And the book, while long, is easy to read, at times quite humorous, at times rather surprisingly serious.

I would recommend that anyone purchasing this book use the glossaries as a way of organizing their reading. Although this book is arranged in sections, each individual chapter within a given section is complete within itself, and can therefore be read in whatever sequence the reader chooses based on his or her interests. I reread some essays, skipped a few entirely. By and large, I found "Hollywood Migraine" quite instructive, even though I consider myself already knowlegeable as a film fan.

My family and I have implemented most of the information in this book and as a result are living happier, healthier lives. This book focuses on 5 areas of life that need to be addressed for optimal health. It has testamonies of individuals in each section. This is not a book of medicine. It is a book that focuses on the major factors of life that effect a person's health. If you are ready to take charge of your life and your health, this is the book for you. It works!

Yes rowboats and luxury liners do sink as well as aircraft falling out of the sky. Ones ability to effectively take control of the situation and keep all parties alive through clear thinking and good judgement is the key to Survival not only at sea, but even on a waterless dessert island. All the material collect from naval research is founded on actual experineces of those that had to use there whits and enginuity to survive until rescued. A must for the international traveler

Ray Comfort - How To Win Souls & Influence People
Excellent book! A must read for any Christian seeking the will of God for their lives. It will equip and motivate you to do the work God has called you to do. You can't go wrong with any of Ray's tracts, tapes, or books!

A very practical and helpful book
This is a re-write of a couple of Ray's earlier books, and includes some fresh material. "How to Win Souls and Influence People" is a book that not only will stir you to get out and do something for the Kingdom of God:

"Soldier, what are you doing for the Kingdom of God? Are you waiting for a 'word from God'? Then here it is -- 'Go' (Mark 16:15). What are you waiting for? Go somewhere, do something, say something to somebody somewhere, somehow. One day you will be dead, and then it will be too late. While you can think, speak, move your hands and feet, do something for God." (pg. 53-54)

It will also teach you how to approach people, open a conversation, use tracts or other resources (like a blank piece of paper, pg. 193) to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

With this book, and his "Hell's Best Kept Secret" (also available through Amazon), you will have not only a fire put in you to get out and share your faith, but you will be equipped with the method and tools to do so effectively.

If you know that you should witness, but are scared to death to do so, or just don't know how, then get this book, read it, and put it's principles into practice...and you'll never be the same!
